Lempod founder on his recent exit, Amazon announces long-awaited Prime Day Dates, Palantir and Asana make their debut on Wall Street, and more…

From 0 to exit in 18 months with a side project

FE International had the pleasure of working with Guillaume Moubeche, founder of both lempod and lemlist. FE advised Moubeche on a successful exit for lempod, which he details in his blog post. If you’re an aspiring founder or even considering buying a business, there are some great insights in there from a very personal perspective – rarely seen with so many deals kept private post-sale.

Amazon announces long-awaited Prime Day Dates

On Monday, the long-awaited date of Amazon’s Prime Day was revealed. Prime Day will begin at 3 AM ET on Tuesday, October 13th, and will be held in 19 countries, including new additions Turkey and Brazil, through October 14th. In preparation for Prime Day, Amazon is also looking to support small businesses by offering Prime users a $10 credit when they spend $10 at select small businesses.  According to analysts, Amazon sold more than an estimated $6 billion worth of products on Prime Day last year.

Palantir and Asana make their debut on Wall Street

On Wednesday, both Palantir and Asana began trading on the NYSE. Both companies chose to go public via direct listing rather than a traditional initial public offering, which hasn’t been done since Slack took the direct listing route in 2019. Shares of the data-mining company, Palantir, rose more than 30% and closed at $9.50 per share, valuing the company at roughly $20 billion. Asana opened trading at $27 per share and closed with shares up 6.7% at $28.80 per share, valuing the company around $5.5 billion–based on a fully diluted share count. Palantir and Asana follow some other huge tech IPOs this year, including Snowflake and Unity.

GitHub launches code scanning feature for developers

On Wednesday, GitHub launched a code scanning feature that can automatically identify security issues in developer’s software projects. This new implementation is based on a tool called CodeQL, which was acquired by GitHub last year. Developers can access over 2,000 scan templates and can view any detected bugs right in the GitHub interface to prevent publishing vulnerable code. According to GitHub’s blog post announcing the new feature, “code scanning is free for public repositories and is a GitHub Advanced Security feature for GitHub Enterprise.” This free offering could encourage adoption among open-source software maintainers. Code scanning of the open-source component that applications use could result in faster patching times and, overall, better security.

Changing Web Layout Can Affect Rankings, Says Google

In a Google Office Hours hangout, Google’s John Mueller stated that changing a website layout can, in fact, impact search and website rankings. Though a website’s URL may remain the same, changing the layout can affect SEO. Mueller says, “so just because the… kind of the primary content like the blog posts that you have and the URLs themselves don’t change doesn’t mean that there’s nothing else around all of that, that search engines won’t be able to pick up on. It can definitely affect SEO. And it can be a good thing, it can be a bad thing. So it’s not that you need to avoid making these changes but rather when you make these changes make sure to double-check that you’re kind of doing everything really well.”
