In the News…

Stripe Launches Sigma

Online payment platform Stripe, has rolled out a new data analytics tool called Sigma. Sigma is a fully customizable SQL-based tool that will be made available to all Stripe account holders. The module will allow users to pull data available within the Stripe dashboard. Users will also be able to access information in real-time and write SQL queries to track changes over time. Companies will be able to see unpaid invoices, recurring revenue, or average revenue per user over a chosen time period and more.

Patrick Collison, co-founder of Stripe states, “Because Sigma is a query editor, you can express any question or query or analysis of your business data.” This means that users can create their own reports with the data they want to extract from their Stripe account.

Sigma was launched during Stripe Sessions, the inaugural conference for Stripe users. As a developer-focused and data-driven company, Stripe wanted to get ahead of its customers’ analytics needs.

Facebook Updates Albums

Albums on Facebook now include videos, text and check-ins, in addition to photos. Users can pull everything in one place to put together as a collective memory. Albums are designed to gather related content over time and often get overlooked in the News Feed. So, Facebook added the option follow albums, to make sure that users are notified when content is added to an album.

In addition, users can now collaborate on one album. The album creator is allowed to invite other users to add their own content. Albums can then be tagged as a “Favorite”, which features directly on the user’s profile.

Currently, the update is only available to Android and desktop users.

Skype Adopts Snapchat Features

Microsoft announced a major redesign to Skype mobile, which now includes “Highlights”. The feature allows Skype users to share photos and videos of their day, either directly to contacts or posted on the Highlights panel. Sound familiar? Highlights closely resembles Snapchat Stories, adopted by Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

There will also be a “Find” panel, where users can discover add-ins and bots. If users are looking for tickets or a place to eat, they can chat one-on-one with a bot to check pricing and book tickets. Skype is looking to improve the way its users connect and add more functionality to its app – they are calling it a “new generation of Skype.”
