Digital Advertisers Earned Record $59.6 Billion Last Year

For the sixth year in a row, digital advertising revenue in the U.S. rose by the double digits, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s annual report. The report also showed positive trends in mobile advertising, digital video and social media advertising.

All told, last year’s digital ad revenue represented a 20 percent growth in the industry. Quarter over quarter, numbers were even more impressive: Q4 2015 revenue was 23 percent higher than the same quarter in 2014; and the final quarter of last year saw revenues that were 18 percent higher than Q3.

Revenue from mobile advertising reached $20.7 billion last year, a 66 percent increase from the previous year. Digital video earned businesses a total of $4.2 billion, while social media ad revenue rose to $10.9 billion – a 55 percent increase from 2014.

Growth in the industry suggests now is a great time to buy or sell a website that monetizes on advertising. Make sure you do your research first, though, and read up on due diligence for an advertising website.

Google Unveils Page-Level Ads for AdSense

Reflecting the uptick in mobile advertising, Google unveiled a new family of ad formats aimed at helping your message get in front of the right people at the right time.

Page-level ads are designed to improve user experience with ads – which may mean better conversion rates.

Here’s what you need to know about Page-level ads:

  • They don’t interfere with the content, which makes both the user and the publisher happy.
  • Page-level ads don’t count toward your ads-per-page limit, so you can think of them as a bonus ad.
  • They come in two formats:
    • Anchor ads, which are placed to the side and load in the background, so they don’t slow page load time
    • Vignette ads, which load between pages after a user leaves a page for a seamless, wait-free experience
