How We Generated 594k Page Views In a Day

January 21, 2015 by Indre Simanynaite 42 Comments

If I told you there was a free, scalable way to generate consistent targeted traffic to your site that didn’t involve SEO, would you be interested?

Working on one of the websites that FEInternational formerly owned and ran, we generated nearly 600,000 page views in a day using BuzzBundle as a promotion tool.

BuzzBundle Viral Traffic

Due to confidentiality agreement related to the sale we can’t divulge the site in question but we have put together this BuzzBundle tutorial to show you how it is more than just a social media monitoring tool and how we use it to drive traffic.

In our case, the site was in the humour niche and we were monitoring/reacting to live news for a viral effect, but it works just as effectively in niches that are less likely to go viral and help bring in a steady stream of traffic for months and years to come.  Hopefully, by the end of this tutorial, you will know how to use BuzzBundle in your day to day marketing activities.

What is BuzzBundle?

BuzzBundle is a desktop based software that can help generate more traffic to your site by engaging with your target audience directly within various social media sites, blogs and forums. Everything is organized in a central location and it scans:

  • Blogs
  • Forums
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google +
  • LinkedIn
  • Yahoo! Answers
  • YouTube

You are able to scrape any mentions and keywords that you are targeting from a vast variety of sites and reply to them instantly within the BuzzBundle software. If done regularly, you are able to build a reputation, raise awareness of your website and also receive targeted traffic. You are also able to use BuzzBundle in several languages as well as check what your competitors are up to.

Ready to get started? Download a Free Trial of BuzzBundle and follow the tutorial below on how to set it up and use it to generate traffic to your content.

How to Set Up a BuzzBundle Campaign

As an example, we will show you how we got traffic to one of our posts on the FE International Blog. First of all let’s walk you through how to set up BuzzBundle. In the presentation below you will find:

  • How to set up Personas and add Profiles
  • How to use keyword section and monitor your competitors
  • How to speed up your ‘Buzz’

Before you get started, get your social accounts ready! If you don’t have some existing accounts – don’t worry too much, BuzzBundle will do it for you (they will only ask for your existing e-mail address and will set up any accounts needed for you in order to set up instant communication channels).

With BuzzBundle you are also able to operate as different personas and engage in various specific conversations. For example, you can manage your Facebook Marketing and Customer Service accounts as well as Twitter and YouTube at once without logging in and out. It is also useful if you have several websites or blogs and would like to promote them at the same time in different projects. BuzzBundle is based on keyword search specific to your niche. You can also monitor your own social existence as well as your competitor’s (you will have an option to put in their URL instead of yours).

Click the ‘Start Prezi’ button in the centre of the presentation below to view.

How to Use BuzzBundle to Target Your Audience and Get Traffic

BuzzBundle allows you to reply and answer any forum and Q&A posts, tweets and blogs that were found using your selection of keywords.

  • Look for someone interested in your topic, looking for help or having any issues related to your existing content.
  • Prepare to share your content, suggestions and help out with any other information that people might seek. That’s how you create a great network and get targeted audience to follow you. You can also reply with a photo message, retweet as well as make someone’s post your favourite.
  • In order to save some time, you might want to create a couple of templates that you will use while answering enquires. Never use your template for everything. Modify it slightly for a personal approach. You’ll be much more successful that way.
  • Don’t spam! It’s much more effective to write 10 thoughtful responses than 100 templated responses.

Help me to find best SEO tools

Answer

Hi John,
The best way to find SEO tools is to probably test a couple of free ones and decide what suits your needs and your niche. I would suggest checking out this blog post that lists 105 free SEO tools and see which one benefits you:

Question

Please suggest, what tool is the best to use to find keywords?

Answer

Hi John!
You could try Keyword Eye (it allows 20 keyword searches per day for free) and Soovle (you can search keywords on multiple search engines and it also gives you alternatives as you type in keywords automatically). If you are just learning about SEO and keyword research take a look at these free SEO tools, you might find it quite useful: http://feinternational.com/blog/105-free-seo-tools-ultimate-toolkit-digital-marketers/

The best practice for outreaching your audience is to keep updating your Keyword Groups. The variety of keywords will give you a vast variety of material to target. In addition, spend some time on BuzzBundle promoting new content, work out the schedule that suits you and your business model: an hour a day or 10 hours a week.

schedule a post

Another interesting feature in BuzzBundle is that you can create scheduled posts (including videos) in My Activities – Add Post. You can schedule future posts when you are away and speak to your audience in different time zones. Set the time and share your content on different social sites at once.

You can also use private messages for more in-depth conversations (again, everything is there for you without logging in or out, it displays Twitter, Google+, Facebook private messages in one window)

How to Get the Most out of BuzzBundle

To really see the positive effects of BuzzBundle, you need to make it part of your daily ritual. Spend an hour or two a day checking for new updates and promote your content using the above methodology. Before your designated BuzzBundle time, hit Find Buzz and leave it for 20 minutes or so to load all the data. It might speed up your process if you decide to scan only blogs today or load options one by one. Either way, you can still work with the loading data and you will definitely be able to target niche audiences.

Why Should I Use a Proxy?

Whilst pulling various amounts of data from Google, forums, Q&A sites and blogs using BuzzBundle, it is important that you don’t get your IP address banned. If you’re running a high volume of keyword searches, using multiple proxies is a must. A proxy acts as a hub that allows you to indirectly access network connections. It’s the equivalent of calling someone from your cell but another number pops up on the receiver’s phone. By using proxies, your own IP address isn’t detected and by rotating between various proxies you avoid getting banned. Try using 10 semi dedicated proxies as a starting point which are reasonably priced at BuyProxies. This is definitely worthwhile if you’re planning on really scaling up your campaigns!

How can I make BuzzBundle faster using a VPS?

Given that BuzzBundle is a desktop based software, it does require substantial computing power. When you run it on your own machine you’ll find that it runs fairly slow (depending on your connection speed), including everything else that you have running. In addition to using proxies we recommend that you use a Windows VPS.

Essentially this is a remotely located PC that you rent monthly and control. Not only will you be using the computing power of a different machine but it will also have its own internet connection and bandwidth. You can therefore run BuzzBundle it constantly without affecting your own machine, or internet, connectivity or having to wait all day for results. You can try a Windows VPS from Winity. We increased efficiency by 2 times since moving onto a VPS.

Should I Use The Free Version Of BuzzBundle Or Upgrade?

Definitely try the free version first to see how you get on with it – by following our guide you should be able to get up to speed in a few days. It is worth mentioning that the professional license includes a 6 months free subscription to their maintenance plan. The product depends on various other sites that regularly need to be adjusted to in order to provide the best results. If you order a 3 year maintenance plan up front that will cost you about $3 per month.

BuzzBundle gives you a free trial period of 15 days where you can see 70% of mentions. After this period the number drops to 30% visibility. Free and Professional versions get the same amount of keyword groups and keywords per project.

FREE PROFESSIONAL
15 daysUNLIMITED
70% of brand mentions (after 15 days it drops to 30% visibility)UNLIMITED
2 personasUNLIMITED
20 scheduled posts (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn)UNLIMITED

We use the professional version of BuzzBundle as we like to get maximum results. If you are just starting out and are short of cash, then the free version should help you generate enough income to afford an upgrade

Our BuzzBundle Review

All in all, BuzzBundle is a great help promoting new content and targeting your audience directly. It helps to increase traffic to your website sustainably and will help you find more genuine leads from social media, blogs and forums for your business. A little BuzzBundle a day will help you see a steady growth trend in traffic. It might even help something go viral like we did!

Interesting post, I bought Buzz Bundle a while back and never really got to grips with it. I found the searches never returned, it was super slow and pretty buggy. So much so I ended up getting a refund for it.

Has the latest version of the software addressed this type of issue? If you haven’t had any problems running it then might be time for me to revisit it!

      Hi Steve,

Thank you for your comment. We have experienced similar issues internally but we have found a few quick fixes for speed, which are in the slideshow presentation above. If you’re really serious about using BuzzBundle, investing in a VPS will help address the other speed issues. BuzzBundle is something we use daily, and it requires a bit of patience, but once the data has loaded it’s proven invaluable to us over the years.

Let us know how you get on.

      Thanks,

      Hi Karl,

Thanks for the comment! We have used Google Alerts quite extensively for years until moving towards BuzzBundle in more recent times. While it’s not a perfect tool and can be slow (especially without a VPS) the main advantages we’ve seen vs. Google Alerts are:

      – Actively monitors social networks
      – You can setup individual projects/tasks which makes it more scalable
      – You can schedule posts
      – The free version alone is more useful than Google Alerts

      The main disadvantages:

      – It takes some time to run each day vs. an email in your inbox from Google Alerts
      – It has a slightly higher learning curve (although this post should help)

Overall, the actual method of posting useful answers to questions in your niche doesn’t change whether you use BuzzBundle, Google Alerts or any other tool.

      Hope that helps!

How exactly did you use it to generate about 500k views in a day? This article has not answered the pertinent question.

I appreciate the fact that you have given a nice review of a solid software but really, you didn’t touch on how that helped getting the number of page views you claimed.

Replying to keyword alert ones at a time wouldn’t generate thousands of page views. At best, we’ll get consistent traffic but again, I’m more interested in seeing the way you used this particular software to do what you claim.

Sorry for coming across like this but this article didn’t live up to the hype…or did I miss something?

      Hi Tim,

This is the strategy we used for traffic generation although there were other factors in play.

In our particular case, the site (which for fairness did already average around 250,000 page views a day) was in the humour niche and had content that could go viral. There is always an element of luck to going viral, but using BuzzBundle allowed us to quickly identify places where people were talking about our niche (in our case it was humour related to the news) so we could post links to our content. These results certainly aren’t typical as it relies on shareable content, people sharing (after they’ve found content you’ve linked to) but the fundamentals still apply for any niche. Demonstrating the traffic we managed to attract was more tangible proof that it works rather than hype. Like any form of marketing, it will only be effective if you have quality content that people want to read and share.

Ironically, the “hype” we’ve used in the title of this blog post has served to supplement the method itself. Use a title people want to click on, post links (manually or with a tool like BB) and ensure the content is worth reading and sharing.

      January 26, 2015 at 10:39 am

      Hi Kate,

I would suggest using multiple proxies instead of a VPN. As for VPS vs VPN, let me briefly explain the difference between the two:

A VPS (Virtual Private Server) is where you host your data and software on another device, therefore lowering the CPU usage of your main computer. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) allows you to browse the internet anonymously, without revealing your IP address. A VPN wouldn’t be ideal in this situation as you’re just exchanging one IP address for another. Potentially, this could mean your VPN gets blocked. Using multiple proxies (we use 10) will minimises the risk greatly as you’ll have multiple IP addresses.

      Hope that helps,

      Indre

      Hi Guilherme,

Thank you for your comment! I would advise you change the keywords you are monitoring to be more specific to your niche. To make your search management a little easier, there is also the option of limiting the BuzzBundle flow by dates (Edit the Stream – Add Filter – Message Date). For example, you can set BuzzBundle to search posts only from the last week.

      Hope that helps!

    Hi Indre,

I notice that this looks to be a spike and that towards the end of the chart the views drop down back towards the previous ‘norm’. Being a ‘humour niche’ was there an abnormal event that caused this? Or could you show later dates post this spike (looks almost anomalous to me) to show that rou generated a sustained rise rather than benefitted from a short term gain?

Asking as I’m genuinely interested but the chart looks more like a spike than a long term increase in traffic.

    Thanks.

      Hi Tim,

      Thanks for the comment.

Whilst that particular day was an anomaly – we were mainly using it as an example of what can be done if you stick to promoting a site consistently (we didn’t then stop using it). We’ve generally found that a short term spike in traffic (assuming you reach a relevant audience) will then settle at a slightly higher level than before (especially if you capture those people via email/an app/social media. I’ve included another chart here which shows pageviews over the next few months post-spike. It’s hard to see from the chart but the pageviews were as follows:
      November: 5.53m pageviews
      December: 9.99m pageviews
      January: 7.40m pageviews
      February: 6.65m pageviews
      March: 7.44m pageviews
Overall that should demonstrate traffic settling at a new “base” level. Hope that helps!

    Also..
+How do you manage to answer questions from Yahoo? Do you use the proxy combined with several accounts from yahoo? Cause my account got suspended because of the many questions that I answered.
+At the time I can only reply to twitter accounts. In the social media sites it only shows twits from twitter. How can I do to put facebook in there too?

Thank you very much for the information. It is a really helpful tool. I just want to use it %100

      Hi Julian,

In regards of slow loading time I would contact BuzzBundle’s customer support service, they are very helpful and quick to respond.

We do use proxies and we build trustworthy accounts on Yahoo. You have to reach a particular level in order to post a link (please refer to Yahoo Points & Levels guidelines). You can also add several Yahoo accounts: Personas & Profiles – Add Profile – Yahoo! Answers. You need to build an active account but try not to do too much at once. Answering too many questions every day, which aren’t particularly helpful and short, is a quick way to get your account suspended

In order to add Facebook accounts go to Connect Profile – add existing profile or register a new one, it should then appear on your Social Networks feed. Edit Social Networks stream and select other social media channels in order to see all of them in one stream. (Edit the Stream button is on the right corner of every stream, where it shows you the number of how many dialogues there are, it also gives you the option of filtering your results by date, author and more).

      Hope it helps!

      Hi Robert,

Forum marketing takes time and should be seen as a long term strategy. Before posting or pushing any links, you should spend time contributing to the forums, being helpful and generally being seen. Some forums have a minimum post count before you can include links. Whatever it is, post more than that otherwise you still look like a spammer who has posted the bare minimum just to be able to include links. Once you are able to post links, continue to contribute in a meaningful way and post your links only when it’s appropriate.

      Thanks for reading,

      Amar

I notice when signing up at winity they ask for a VPS Label , do I have to put my domain name here and if I do will this affect my website in anyway? Hi,

      Thanks for your comment.

You can use BuzzBundle on Winity if you select their UK location. As for the VPS label you’ll have to check with them directly as to what that means.

Think of a VPS as just another computer that you control remotely. It’ll have a windows install, an internet connection, Internet Explorer etc. The only difference is that you just use your own computer to control this remote one. In exactly the same as you would do at home e.g. download a piece of software, install and then use it, you will just be doing the same elsewhere so your own computer’s resources aren’t used.

      Hope that helps.

      Thanks,

      Amar

I am planning on using this method with Buzzbundle, and a VPS. My question is, regarding the VPS, will a basic package with 1 Gb RAM be enough to run the software well, or should I go with 2 or 3 Gb RAM? Thanks.

    Hi,
Thanks for the review. I am considering investing in Buzz Bundle, however it seems a lot like Hootsuite in the way it works, which is free. Are there any specific advantages that BB enjoys over HS?
